Lite vs Enclosed

The MMU3 for CORE One is available in two configurations. Both use identical hardware: the MMU3 unit, buffer, and spoolholders.

Lite (this listing): Mounts on top of the printer with the top panel removed. Installation is quick and easy, but you lose the benefits of a fully enclosed chamber. A replacement top cover can be 3D printed if needed. This configuration is ideal for PLA printing or for users who want to swap the MMU3 between an MK4S and CORE One with minimal effort.

Enclosed (with conversion kit add-on): Add the MMU3 Enclosed Conversion Kit to receive a modified top cover with a pass-through for the PTFE tube. The printer remains fully enclosed, preserving temperature control for materials like ABS and ASA.

What is the MMU3?

The MMU3 is an add-on for Prusa printers that lets you print with up to five filaments at once. It is the fastest and most efficient single nozzle multi-material system available, with high quality output and minimal waste. Unlike similar solutions that generate byproduct heavier than the printed object itself, the MMU3 deposits excess material into a compact wipe tower at the edge of the print area.

Load the filaments, slice your model in PrusaSlicer or EasyPrint, and start the job. The MMU3 handles filament switching automatically for fast, colorful results with minimal effort.

Fastest Single-Nozzle Multi-Material Printing

Filament swaps on the MMU3 typically take 35 to 45 seconds. A multi-material print can involve thousands of changes, so those seconds add up fast. Compared to other single nozzle systems, you can expect hours of time saved on larger prints.

Efficient Operation

When the MMU3 switches filaments, it runs a cleaning procedure that softens and removes leftover material from the nozzle. This keeps color transitions clean without needing a lot of purged filament. The excess gets deposited into a wipe tower, a small partially hollow structure next to the print that also helps stabilize nozzle pressure. Everything stays in one spot, so there is no mess to deal with.

Reduced Plastic Waste

PrusaSlicer has a few built-in options for cutting down on filament waste. Wipe-to-infill uses the printed object's own infill as a purge area instead of the wipe tower. Wipe-to-object lets you use a secondary print as the purge target, which works well for functional parts or anything you plan to paint later. Both can make a noticeable difference in how much material gets used up.

Wide Compatibility, No Vendor Lock-In

The included spoolholders fit a wide range of filament spools, including large 2kg spools, so you are not locked into any single brand. You can also download or print custom spoolholders for specialty spools like paper-based rolls that need extra support.

Smooth Filament Feeding

The filament path is set up to keep resistance low and prevent tangling. Filament loads into a buffer cassette, goes into the MMU3 unit on top of the printer, and then feeds down into the extruder. This keeps things running smoothly throughout the print.

Enhanced Firmware with Two-Way Communication

The MMU3 has two-way communication with the printer, so it can report status updates and error details directly on the LCD screen. It can also diagnose and handle many issues on its own without you stepping in. If you do need to intervene, you can control the MMU3 through the printer's LCD menu or the buttons on the unit itself.

Reliable and Easy to Maintain

The MMU3 is built for long unattended prints with thousands of filament changes. Nothing is glued together. Every component can be taken apart with a screwdriver and repaired or replaced on its own. Between that and the two-way communication with the printer, it is a low-maintenance system that stays out of your way.

Full Slicer Support

PrusaSlicer has full MMU3 support with tools for painting colors onto your model, including a brush, smart fill, and bucket tool. The smart wipe tower, wipe-to-infill, and wipe-to-object features help cut down on wasted filament. There is also Beam Interlocking, which creates cross-hatched boundaries between colors so multi-material prints actually hold together.
