PLA is most hobbyist makers material of choice for 3D printing. A bio-degradable plastic derived from renewable resources, it is one of the easiest materials to print with, offering a relatively low melting point and is able to be printed without a heated bed. Printing with PLA is typically odorless, or when it smells gives of a 'sweet' aroma, and emits less harmful fumes than some other 3D printing materials, making it a safer option for enclosed spaces without proper ventilation.

The glue holding the filament spool together is rated for an environment of 70C (158F). If using a filament dryer or require the filament spool by placed in an environment exceeding this temperature, we recommend 3D printing this Cardboard Spool Ring and Clamp.

Filament can absorb moisture easily. To prevent moisture absorption and contamination, the packing of filament should be kept sealed and in an airtight container with desiccant.
