Capra Audio's Satyr 4 is an open-back HiFi headphone that you print and build yourself. This LDO kit supplies everything else, from drivers and pads to wiring and fasteners.
Satyr 4 is an open-back, over-ear headphone designed by Capra Audio. The body parts are 3D printed, and this kit from LDO supplies the rest. It includes the drivers, pads, wiring, tuning resistors, acoustic mesh, fasteners, cable, and a USB-C dongle DAC to drive them.
Tuning comes from interactions between the driver, chamber volume, damping material, and resistor value, all of which Capra worked out on measurement rigs and published (see below). The results compete with commercial headphones that cost several times the price.
Model files and the full build guide are free on the Satyr 4 Printables page

Capra publishes response measurements from four separate rigs.
What separates the Satyr 4 is the work around it. Chamber geometry, damping behind the driver, the mesh in front, pad depth, series resistance, etc. Change any of those and the response moves, which is why the kit ships specified parts rather than cheaper alternatives.
A head and torso simulator with an anthropometric ear canal, and the closest thing the industry has to a standard for headphone measurement.
The previous generation of the same family. Useful for comparing against the large body of older measurements taken on it.
A widely used clone coupler. Reliable through the bass and midrange, less so above roughly 8 kHz.
Click any graph to open it at full size. Each rig uses a different coupler and compensation, so the four traces are not directly comparable to each other. Read each against other headphones measured on the same rig.
Everything you need to build the Satyr 4 headphones, except the printed parts.
Designed by Capra Audio
Satyr 4 is the fourth generation of Capra's open-back design. The files are free, the bill of materials is public, and the measurements are published alongside them. Nothing is proprietary. Every part can be reprinted or replaced.
Each cup assembly is a stack. The grille, housing, mesh over the driver, driver plate, baffle, and pad ring, drawn together with a set of screws. Capra documents the order and orientation of every layer, which matters because the stack is the tuning.

Before you order
You print the housings, baffles, baffle rims, driver plates, grilles, yokes, and attachment arms in a rigid filament (PETG recommended), and the headband, comfort strap, and spacers in TPU. Capra supplies one side of the mirrored parts, so you will duplicate and mirror a few pieces in your slicer before printing.
The headband is a separate download, the Capra Headband V3 , and it has its own print notes.
